Following his recent reporting involving businessman Obey Chimuka and Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr, Deejay Holy says he has received a series of WhatsApp messages and telephone calls from different individuals asking him to remove material he published.
Screenshots preserved by Deejay Holy show one individual asking about material posted on his Facebook page before sending the message: “Can you please delete it.”
A separate WhatsApp account made several calls before sending another message stating: “Can you please delete today.”
According to Deejay Holy, during the communications he was also told that the individuals had been “sent by vakuru” — a Shona expression that can refer to elders, senior figures or leaders.
However, based on the evidence currently available, the identity of the alleged “vakuru” has not been independently established, nor has evidence been produced showing who, if anyone, instructed the individuals to contact Deejay Holy.
One of the WhatsApp accounts displayed a profile photograph of Kuda Tagwirei, while another individual identified himself to Deejay Holy as “Marist.” A profile photograph alone does not establish that an account belongs to, represents, or is authorised by the person pictured.
Deejay Holy says he has preserved the original WhatsApp communications, call records and screenshots and is now investigating who contacted him, who they meant by “vakuru,” and whether anyone instructed them to seek the removal of his reporting.
The available screenshots show that multiple individuals contacted Deejay Holy requesting the deletion of material. They do not independently establish that Obey Chimuka, Kuda Tagwirei, Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr, the SDA Church, or any other named person or organisation instructed those individuals to make contact.
Deejay Holy says all parties concerned will be afforded an opportunity to respond, and any further evidence obtained will be assessed before publication.
